Last day in Cyprus

We managed some working hours, lunch and then we had to patiently wait for the leaving hour, by the poolside. This doesnt sounds like a difficult thing to do, but we had some issues with just laying under the sun and waiting. We just couldn’t find our place, and I couldn’t focus on reading. I feel like every time I go to a different place,or even returning home, I feel the energy of this change far earlier and this creates enthusiasm and planning ideas. I like to travel and make changes as often as possible, and this drives my creativity to higher levels.I feel richer after each experience.
Now I can’t wait to get home and put some things in order, have our good coffee in the morning and soon some “back to sport” time.
This was our 2nd time in Cyprus and we really enjoyed  each our vacation. It’s nice to recognize vacation places and know the hidden gems.
Hopefully will return next year for a few days.

Next stop: Romania

How to dangerously visit Paphos-Part 2

We went to Latchi beach to rent a boat and unfortunately being a windy day we could have rented just a boat for 7.It would have been nice if we were traveling with some friends, but for then we just decided to walk by in the area.We had lunch and planned to try to find Lara beach because I’ve heard that there was very beautiful and private beach.

I don’t know how we manage this vacation but our adrenaline is rising every day.

Somehow it happened again to got stuck in a sandy place on Lara beach, after driving on a single lane with some dangerous views beside, and some unpaved road.Luckily the moment we got the car wheels deep sank in the sand, we got helped by some nice people who pushed our car after trying many unsuccessful times.

For the rest of the day, we just enjoyed the sun and Ovidiu swam  a lot in the sea.

As always, we’ve done our research for a nice restaurant on Tripadvisor. We found Sienna restaurant, where we ‘ve met a Romanian waiter that told us which were the best choices in the menu so we had a nice culinary experience.

In the evening after working a few hours we decided to watch a movie,”The Constanta Gardener” that made us conscient about drug testing and how the things that help us survive and treat dangerous diseases may also bury us alive.

How to dangerously visit Paphos

Yesterday we planned to visit Paphos and started by going to Coral bay. We arrived there at around 12, after working a bit in the morning, and we were ready to have a great day. Till I fall on a slippery street on our way to the beach. It’s been a while since I’ve had such a large scratch, and I wasn’t really prepared for this kind of situation, no napkin, no band aid, nothing.
So I had to manage this situation pretty fast  since blood and pain were present. Went for the first time ever to the lifeguard for first aid, he sprayed some disinfectants and he told me that it was nothing, and to go in the sea water because will cure faster. I knew about this kind of treatment but wasn’t “ready emotional” for this. So went to the pharmacy and got some patches, and felt much better with my scratch covered.
Ovidiu told me to return to the house we rented and spend our afternoon by the poolside, but I didn’t want him to lose some nice vacation time just because I’ve got a scratch. I’ve planned so many nice places to visit, and we had rented a car for this and we went forward.

Sea caves

Firstly we went to see the Sea Caves, where Ovidiu took a nice swim and visited a cave  while I was waiting  on a stone and read while getting tanned. In this time,I was thinking that the days before, I didn’t get so much tan, but today when my knee was all taped, all the tan will be on 🙂

Sea caves

After this, we went to visit Aphrodite’s Baths at around 1 hour from the Sea caves. After getting to the place google pointed as Aphrodite’s Baths, we didn’t know exactly how far it would have been by walking and we went by car, even all the other people left their cars in a parking lot, we said Batman! And went forward.

Bad idea! Really bad idea!
The road was great for a land car, not for our car, an Opel Zafira. But we tried to go by our car, even by the look on other people’s faces we could have been guessed was a bad idea. Actually, I’ve read about a place where just 3 km was a bad road, and then some amazing nature places. It wasn’t that case, but I think my mind tricked me at that exact moment.
So we went to that unpaved road, with just a single lane, waiting when another land car was meeting ours and let them pass. We arrived at a high point with no safety beside the road, a single lane and no place to turn, just to go backward. And the car got stacked. That was the moment I thought it was definitely not a good idea to go by our car. Hopefully, the car rental agency is not reading this. 🙂
So we went slowly-slowly, with some panic moments (inner screaming) and some” told you” look on the people’s faces, that were walking, or going by a land car.
Fortunately, nothing bad happened, we returned to the parking lot and walked to Aphrodite’s bath -which was just 5 min away from the parking lot. It would have been great to know this before but I googled it and didn’t found a thing about this.

We then returned to Paphos and tried a nice indian restaurant recommended by Tripadvisor. Great for our tasting buds, and our sweaty mind.
End of the day.

Sunshine in Paphos

Been traveling for 4 days now and thinking about posting every day. I was thinking about this when I was home too but seems like it’s more interesting to write when I’m in a variety of places, getting inspired by every moment. In the same time, I am afraid that I may want to do this for my entire life, this nice feels like.

Woke by the desire to see the sunshine, this experience reminded me of the childhood mornings when I was going to the farm’s land with my grandparents and we were supposed to be there before the sunshine, so the grass would be easier to be organized and prepared for the winter. This way the farm’s animals would have what to eat in the winter and rest of the year. I remember thinking about the marvelous sunshine and sunset and I was a bit disappointed that for catching such a beautiful moment we had to wake up so early. But this amazing moment deserved the effort and became a strong motivator for me, beside an energizer.

The non-judgemental perspective

Those weekend days found me reading and focusing more on my psychotherapy career. The more I dive into, the more I love this field. This entire educational time (read : a life-long period) shapes my thoughts and mind. I am educating myself into a non-judgemental perspective, and as easy this would look like, this is not. This is a fundamental condition for my career,  a sine qua non.

I appreciate it as a difficult state of mind, not necessarily in my interaction with others, but versus me feels more detrimental. As I often find myself in a self-observing state and the second moment I start criticizing my actions, what was wrong, and less focus on what was good. For example, I constantly criticize my writing skills, which made me stop this activity for a few days (and postpone starting my blog). And the thing I found about this, is that this mental activity is a reflex, resulting automatically (many years of practice) and I notice it after my attitude/behavior is already influenced by that.

Besides the negative aspect, I think that observing and target the positive leads me to a healthier inner state, prone to creativity and a nonjudgmental position. This brings me to the fact that I need to begin by refocusing my attention on the positive aspect, like a reward, so this may help me grow new skills. This is a great exercise that works in many different areas.

Reminding here the famous A-B-C model, used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where A its the antecedent (the automated critique/observational state), B– follows as a behavior (the reward/focus on the positive) and C is the consequence (a result). The observational skills make easier the trigger’s identification before a behavior or thought. Not to forget about the feedback: Reinforcement (focus on the positive) or Punishment (critique).

Keeping in mind the fact that the behavior followed by a pleasant response (reinforcement) will likely be repeated, this brings on the wanted consequences, in my case better-writing skills. As I said earlier, lots of work to do, but I’m feeling grateful this is my career.

Why I haven’t written an “about me”page

My name is Ana and I’m studying systemic couple psychotherapy. I am happily married and working beside my husband on the project which is an awesome phone unlocking company.

But this is not all. I am constantly changing myself. I love reading, and observing, traveling or to imagine it, and this is constantly changing me by exposure, imagination or experience. I embrace all that I am, and will be, I appreciate myself with good and bad.
Have you noticed how difficult is to present yourself in a few words, if someone suddenly asks about you? Usually, the first answer brings up the profession, marital status, if you are a parent, daughter and so on. We are presenting ourselves by the importance of the system we are involved in. Sometimes this may be helpful for prioritizing, but what if we just lack the ability to define the barrier for each of those qualities? Do you know when you stop being out of schedule, or a mother, or a child?selfie-in-malta

A reading trick

I had an upset stomach for 2 days in a row, and I’m feeling exhausted about it. Hope this is not a gluten intolerance, because I’ve been reading about this and looks a lot like it would be. And because I could not do so many things today, I had tried a mental activity I was doing in my Erasmus year. This activity is listening and reading at the same time with a faster speed. I use a program called naturalreaders  and it helps me concentrate better and read more pages than I would usually do. Sometimes (like today) its feels so difficult to concentrate for a longer time, and this method just makes it much easier for me. I discovered this when I was preparing my exams in France, and this also helped me with my pronunciation, while learning faster, and understanding more easier.

Below it’s a nice car I saw yesterday. Looks like a toy 😀 This made me curious and I searched on their facebook and it’s about a company that helps young drivers gain courage and skills for driving. Sounds interesting!

Botanical garden

Those days I’ve been working a lot on onlineunlocks and didn’t quite had enough to time to post.

But today we decided to take a break and went to the Botanical Garden. It’s a really nice green place of Iasi, where you may enjoy some fresh air, see some interesting plant species or just stay in nature with a book.We really love to connect with nature and recharge our batteries this way. Too bad we don’t this more often.

Also, today had my first educational session in a therapist identity. I must say, I have the best teacher ever! Sometimes it is just difficult to recognize inside me the abilities I already have for this profession, but she showed me today that I am more than I expected in this direction. That session helped me to value myself more than before, and every single moment I felt like that was a great conversation to have, with someone who’s the best in this field. Really appreciate having this experience.

Team building

Work-work-work and team building. Today I felt like after a session of family therapy practice, meaning a state of wellbeing. I enjoyed sharing our ideas while working together to find a solution. There will always appear issues  or difficulties. It’s extremely important to learn how to work as a team and this quality will bring more success for everyone, besides other positive results. What a great day!

After lunch, we had to put together a Gersby bookcase from Ikea. I must admit, I’m a big fan of Ikea, and I usually go there online, since we don’t have their shop in our city.  Unfortunately, we had to return another piece of this model because it was damaged while being shipped, and this one was almost lucky, just a scratch that we managed to hide after assembling.

I need to arrange my books as soon as possible because those are ” crying” all together for attention and being on a shelf. Will post a photo when done.

Happy Sunday

This Sunday was a “traditional” rest day, with very little work in the morning (more in the afternoon 🙂 We had enough time to go out and have a lemonade, and to spend some nice time while planning our next week. I’m so happy that I have started my education in family therapy, so much that I don’t have enough words to express this. It’s almost a year now since our first class and I’m very excited about this field, study group, and teacher. This September will participate in classes and I’m so happy to take part and learn more about this amazing profession. Also, soon I will begin my personal therapy as a stage of my family therapy education, and I have butterflies in my stomach 😀 Until then I will just read and apply what I find out to suit me.
